Proof that San Antonio’s tech world is motivated to help the city embrace the cutting edge was in abundance when social media, word-of-mouth, and free beer and hors d’oeuvres attracted an overflow crowd to the Southerleigh restaurant and brew pub. There, the inaugural gathering of “Tech Bloc” — billed as a group of technology advocates with an aim of modernizing San Antonio to make it easier to recruit businesses — took on the spirit of a political rally. About 950 people RSVP’d the event — and with the venue’s 600-person limit, organizers sometimes had to keep attendees away.
